When you start using Inkscape for your design work, you might run into some common issues. Today we are going to solve one of those common issues, Which indeed is not actually a problem but rather a feature, an annoying feature. The problem is Inkscape gradient changes on moving the objects in Inkscape.
What is the problem?:
The common problem a lot of you might encounter in Inkscape is that the Inkscape Gradient changes when you move the object, to which the gradient was applied. As you can view in the picture below that When I move the object with gradient. The gradient given to it changed completely.
What is happening:
The issue is that the gradient didn’t move with the object. It stays at its old position behaving as a unique object itself. As you can see that from this screenshot of Inkscape. When you select the Gradient tool, you can see that the gradient didn’t move with the object.
I thought is a bug. Hence, tried uninstalling Inkscape but it remains the same. After some wandering, I found it is a feature of Inkscape not any kind of bug. At the first glance, It looked like a useless feature, but it came really handy, in some cases such as setting up a light source.
How to Fix or Solve it:
The solution to this problem is quite simple. All you need to do is to select “Select and Transforming tool” from the toolbox, then you can see four icons on the top bar of it as you can see in the screenshot below. One of them, the third icon is named “moving gradient (in fill or stroke) along with the object“. Click on that Icon to turn that on. After it, you are good to go. that’s all you need to do.
