While hard work is necessary to be successful in any aspect of life, but hard work only can’t make you successful, especially if you are making some mistakes. And in Instagram Marketing hard work is certainly not enough. It is often observed from beginners in Instagram marketing, though unknowingly, they make some common mistakes during the beginning of their Instagram Marketing journey.
After reading this blog-post, you will get to know the most common mistakes on Instagram that most beginners make, that you can easily avoid easing up your Instagram journey. So let’s get started.
1. Not using the professional or business accounts:
One of the most common mistakes a lot of users do while using Instagram is not switching to a Business account on Instagram. It did not cost even a penny, but still very valuable to your Instagram marketing.
Switching to a business account on Instagram, Provides you the access to post Insights, which is crucial for you to grow your business on Instagram. Insights helps to improve your Instagram strategy and drive more engagements on your Instagram post. With the help of insights, you get to know which type of content drives the maximum engagement or which Hashtags work the best. Which days of the week are best for posting new content.
Other than Insights, business account offers a lot more of features that are very valuable to your business such as- Instagram shopping and adding contact button on your profile like adding a button to E-mail. and it’s all didn’t cost a penny.
You can switch to business account by these simple methods:

2. buying followers and likes:
Most dangerous of all the mistakes mentioned in this blog is to buy fake followers on Instagram. It is the worst of a marketing strategy and must avoid mistakes on Instagram.
Imagine getting 1000s of followers on Instagram in just a blink of time. Buying followers is something similar. But these Buyed followers will mess up with your Instagram Insights which can help you get genuine followers. You will get an instant increase in engagement but some time sooner, these engagements will drastically drops.
Instagram’s algorithm works solely on the number of engagement you get. But fake followers don’t engage with your content which makes your content look bad to Instagram.
I often see accounts with over 10,000 followers but none post of them have over 60 likes. An account with less than 40 followers but having 40 like on some of their posts is much better than the one with 10,000 followers we mentioned before.
3. posting pictures of your own(selfies):
Another common mistake many do on Instagram is posting their own photograph or selfies. Don’t post yourself eating a cake or a thousand selfies that will not gonna work unless you are very beautiful, I am not saying that you are not beautiful, some of you are very beautiful.
People start posting pictures of their pets on Instagram. You have to understand that not everyone finds your pet cute. I recommend creating a new account reserved only for posting pictures of your pets and also of your childrens.
4. Using a very detailed profile picture:
Using a very detailed picture as a profile picture such as a landscape or full body picture might not work. As a detailed picture will not remain understandable in your posts. using text in your profile picture have the same issue of readability and understandablity.

It is recommended to use a close up of your face with a light background (but not white). And for businesses, their logo will work fine, if it is not detailed too much and don’t include any text. Smaller text elements of a profile picture end up becoming a bad element of it as you can see in this photo below.
The logo in this profile picture is pretty good for Instagram but the text written below will not remain readable in your post becoming a bad element.
5. Posting too much:
Another common mistakes a lot of people do on Instagram is to value quantity over the quality of the post. they post too much without maintaining quality. even with maintaining quality too much posting will decrease the overall value of the posts. Your followers will become frustrated by only seeing you in their home feed. Eventually making them to Unfollow you. yeah, you want to be in their home feed. but you didn’t want to dominate their home feed.
I recommend don’t post more than 2 posts a day. 2 posts a day are more than enough to grow your business on Instagram. Posting very less content is also not good for Instagram marketing. post at least 2 posts per week to stay in your follower’s home feed.

6. Using too much of filters:
Another common mistake a lot of new Instagram users, quite often do, is to add too many filters to their posts. I had also done this mistake in my early posts. Adding too much of filters can mess up your photos and graphics you had posted.
I recommend don’t use any kind of filters at all. It will make your post simple and pleasant to watch.
7. Not using Carousels or using it the wrong way:
I believe, posting Carousels on Instagram is the most underrated but effective feature of Instagram. Carousels are one of the most versatile tools available on Instagram. Instagram Carousels lets you post 10 images or videos together as 1 swipeable post. It is the best way to get maximum engagement on Instagram. Carousels enable you to add multiple pictures or selfies in just one post on your profile feed without overwhelming your feed. This feature can be used to tell little stories in a more effective way than Instagram stories.
Moreover, Instagram itself promotes Carousels more than it promotes a single picture post. And try to make the user slide over the 3rd image. Hence, Now you know how Carousels can help in your Instagram Journey, you should start using Carousels more often. Note: The same can be said for Videos too.
8. Not responding to user comments promptly.
Engaging with your audience through comments is a way to build trust and reliability. It can help in increasing your followers count. You needn’t answer each and every comment but try answering a few that might seem relevant, which can help others in finding what they are looking for. But if possible answer every comment doesn’t matter if it’s criticizing or praising you.
